Magnetism Kit
Grade 1-4
This kit provides a teacher with the materials needed to implement or supplement a study of magnets in the classroom. The teacher's guide provides instructions for 6 activity lessons, in addition to a related vocabulary words list.
Included in the kit are all the materials needed for 5 groups of students to complete each activity lesson. As students complete the activities they will discover what objects magnets attract, learn about magnetic poles, see the effect of magnetic fields and learn about electromagnetism.
The kit may be checked out for a period of no more than 2 weeks. A $25 security deposit in the form of a personal check or cash is required at the time of pick up. The deposit will be held for collaterol until kit is returned complete and undamaged.
Magnetism Kit is available for summer programs, please contact our office to schedule a summer-time loan.This kit is available to pick up at the Sedgwick County Extension Office during business hours.
Standards:
- 3-PS2-4. Define a simple design problem that can be solved by applying scientific ideas about magnets.
- 3-PS2-3. Ask questions to determine cause and effect relationships of electric or magnetic interactions between two objects not in contact with each other.
- 5-PS1-3. Make observations and measurements to identify materials based on their properties.
